The 5th Annual Celebration of Human Services

The 5th Annual Celebration of Human Services will be held Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. at the University Center Club. This wonderful evening is dedicated to honoring the dedicated staff, volunteers, and leadership of our local human service organizations. FINALISTS FOR THE 5TH ANNUAL HUMAN SERVICES LEADERSHIP AWARDS

The Board of Directors of United Partners for Human Services announced the following people and organizations as Finalists for the 2010 Human Service Leadership Awards:

COMMUNITY PARTNER AWARD: This award will recognize a local business, organization, agency or institution that has proven to be an exceptional supporter of non-profits in the Big Bend.  This year's finalists are:

  • Publix Super Markets Charities
  • Tallahassee Nurseries
  • Costco

BOARD LEADERSHIP AWARD: This award will be presented to an individual who, in their work as a board member of a UPHS member agency, has contributed significantly to the wellbeing of the organization and whose commitment to the agency has been/is extraordinary.  This year's finalists are:

  • Ben K. Wilinson, Sr. with Big Bend Hospice
  • Kathy Bye with The Oasis Center for Women & Girls
  • Kimberly Fitzgerald with Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend

ABOVE & BEYOND AWARD - ADMINISTRATIVE: This award will be presented to an administrative staff member, with at least one year of service at a UPHS member human service agency, who has demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism, ethics, and dedication to their work.  This year's finalists are:

  • Regina Compton, RN with Big Bend Hospice
  • Louise Royal with Captial Area Community Action Agency
  • Nancy "Topi" Henderson with American Red Cross Capital Area Chapter

ABOVE & BEYOND AWARD - DIRECT SERVICE: This award will be presented to a direct service staff member, with at least one year of service at a UPHS member agency, who has demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism, ethics, and dedication to their work.  This year's finalists are:

  • Keschia Pride with ECHO
  • Mary Norton with Big Bend Hospice
  • Dee Humose with Ability 1st

LEADERSHIP ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: This aware will be presented to a UPHS member agency that has faced extraordinary challenges in the past and has moved beyond them.  The purpose of this award is to recognize the hard work and challenges that face human service agencies and to highlight the achievements of the organization's staff and volunteers in overcoming those challenges.  This year's finalists are:

  • Big Bend Homeless Coalition
  • Elder Care Services
  • WORKFORCE plus

Distinguished Leadership Awards

The Blue Foundation presents the Leadership Tallahassee 16th Annual Distinguished Leadership Awards, Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the University Center Club Ballroom.  Social Hour and Silent Auction, 6:00 p.m., Dinner, 7:15 p.m.  Lifetime Leadership award recipient John M. Hogan, President and CEO of Capital Health Plan will be honored along with recipients of the Leadership Pacesetter, Leader of the Year and Servant Leadership Awards.  In addition, John Perry Thomas of Thomas Howell Ferguson will be recognized as the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce Godfrey Smith Past Chairmen's Award. Lighthouse of the Big Bend Audio Voting Machine Demo

Citizens who are visually impaired will have a chance to test the audio voting machines on Thursday, 8/19 from 2-6pm at the Lighthouse of the Big Bend (3071 Highland Oaks Terrace). The Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office will be bringing four Dominion TSX touchscreen voting machines with audio assist capability to the Lighthouse. Individuals who need to hear the ballot to vote can put on headphones, follow the verbal cues, and then use a keypad to punch in the correct answers. Registered voters will also be able to submit any changes in registration at this time.

Big Champagne Bash - Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend

The BIG BASH—Tallahassee’s Champagne Party benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend. Join us for a spectacular night of bountiful bubbly, beautiful people, delectable hors d’oeuvres, dancing and more. Who: Approximately 300 community-minded, fun-loving guests from throughout Tallahassee and the Big Bend  Why: The BIG Alliance believes our community cannot allow at-risk youth to slip through the cracks. Thanks to support from individuals and local businesses, we make it possible for 300 caring volunteer mentors to inspire kids to: graduate school, avoid drugs and alcohol, avoid teen pregnancy, avoid incarceration , avoid gang involvement, go to college.
