Introduction to the Charitable Contribution Preference System
In September 2006, the Tallahassee City Commission passed Ordinance No. l 06-O-47AA, entitled "Preference
in purchasing and contracting for companies making certain local charitable contributions." The policy
was developed to encourage businesses (hereinafter referred to as VENDORS) to donate funds to eligible
local non-profit organizations (hereinafter referred to as ORGANIZATIONS) by giving a preference to them in
their bids for doing business with the City. Read the
ordinance in its entirety. In general,
the Charitable Contribution Preference Program gives businesses Bonus points on bids they submit for City business when they
make a certain level of in-kind or cash donations to qualified Tallahassee health and human service
organizations. If you are a Vendor and you need additional information on the City's policies regarding
this ordinance, please click HERE.
Eligible contributions are limited to nonprofits that are shown as
qualified organizations by the United
Partners for Human Services (hereinafter referred to as UPHS). In order to be determined eligible,
organizations must: (1) be a 501 (c) (3) organization; AND, (2) directly provide health or human
services to residents of Tallahassee; OR, (3) be either the United Way of the Big Bend or the United
Partners for Human Services are also eligible to receive donations under this ordinance.
